Are Mini Horses ponies

Myth: Mini horses are ponies?

Fact: Miniature horses are not ponies. People all over the world took the smallest horses from every breed and put them together until they breed them all down into Miniature horses. That is why some look like Arabians, Quarter hoses, or Draft horses. They even have a gene (the gray gene - this makes a horse turn white no matter what color they were born) that is specific only to one breed of horse, the Lipizzaner stallions. Not saying that there is absolutely no pony way back in their history but that's why you should find a reputable breeder. They are not ponies.
Now for something that is not my opinion but facts that can be found on Wiki:
"There is an ongoing debate over whether a miniature horse should possess horse or pony characteristics. This is a common controversy within the miniature horse world and also is a hot debate between mini aficionados and other horse and pony breed owners. While technically any member of Equus caballus under 14 hands (142.24 cm) is termed a "pony," many breeds, including some miniature breeds, actually retain a horse phenotype and their breed registry therefore classifies them as horses.
Some miniature horse breed standards prefer pony characteristics such as short, stout legs and elongated torsos, while others prefer ordinary horse proportions. Even the name is in dispute, terms such as "Midget Pony" and "Pygmy Horse" used in addition to "Miniature horse" and breed-specific names such as Falabella. The level of controversy is reflected by the presence of over 30 different registries for miniaturized horses or ponies just within the English-speaking world."
Here is another opinion from hubpages : "Miniature horses are pint-size equine that are fairly new but are quickly gaining in popularity. Ponies, on the other hand, have been around for hundreds of years. People often get the two confused, or think that they’re synonymous. While the two do share many characteristics, of course, they’re entirely different types of equine."
So with that said keep in mind that from 2000 to 2010 Mini horses where favored to have Arabian style head and bodes. Styles change like cloths.
